Better Burger Company

Thayer Street Burgers

I have walked by Better Burger Company dozens of times assuming it was just a college burger joint...not that there's anything wrong with that.  But I imagined it would be a fast food  place, a burger and fries of generic quality.  I learned different from my EdibleRhody Editor, who urged me to go in there and see what they were up to.  It turned out that I arrived at the same moment Ann-Marie Bouthillette was sitting down with the manager's wife, Anna Amaradaki, to discuss the next delivery of beef from Blackbird Farms.  I'll write more on them later, but for the purposes of this review, let me assure you that Blackbird Farms is the real deal.  They raise and nurture their herd of angus cattle up at their organic farm in Smithfield.  They are dedicated to the highest standards of farming their cattle, along with Berkshire Pigs, RI Reds, and more.  They don't sell their beef to restaurants they don't trust, and their list of clients include the most highly praised restaurants in the city and the state:  Persimmon, Inn at Castle Hill, Gracie's, Nicks on Broadway, Chez Pascal, and Better Burger Company.

So back to Better Burger Company. The first item on the menu is the Blackbird Burger, which is a showstopper.  The meat tastes notably moister, more flavorful, sumptuous.  It costs a couple of dollars more, but you will taste the difference.  If you don't want to do spring for the Blackbird burger, you can still get a very good burger.  All BBC's meat is growth-hormone free, antibiotics- free Angus beef.

The most popular is the chipotle burger which is topped with smoked cheddar, bacon, fried onions, and chipotle sauce. The salmon burger is another big favorite.  House made black bean burgers are available with a spicy aioli; the Mexican burger has pepper jack , bacon, avocado, and salsa.  There are plenty of non-burger items on the menu chicken quesadilla, wraps, and salads.  A Kid's Meal menu offers all natural items, including chicken tenders, and burgers for only $3.99.
Anna Amaradaki is dedicated to being green: the paper used in cups and takeaway are all recycled and recycleable. Her passion for all things natural and wholesome infuses the entire operation.  Their buns are preservative free, the chicken is all natural and sourced from Bell and Evans, the fries are cooked in pure olive oil and the falafel, black bean and salmon burgers are made from scratch every morning.
BBC also serves a breakfast with organic eggs, Applewood bacon and fresh squeezed oj.

Better Burger Company has just been approved for a liquor license, so if beer and burgers are your thing, you can find nirvana here.  So, all in all, Better Burger Company is anything but your average burger joint.
